ABOUT ALFREDO J. SANCHEZ
Alfredo Sanchez is a soft spoken artist whose paintings express his positive outlook on life, beauty, and nature. Alfredo has an innate ability to simplify forms and reveal their character in a slightly abstracted manner. He captures the essence of his subject with quick brushstrokes and bold color choices.
He chose Wimberley as his home when he surveyed its valleys and shining cool waters. The terrain’s physical and spiritual beauty are reflected in his current canvases. He travels with his camera and sketchbook at the ready. He creates detailed line drawings in the field that serve as guides for paintings in his studio. He also likes to paint “pleine aire” when possible.
The artist began painting as an avocation after he completed university in Mexico City to become a dentist. He studied with several of the earlier prominent artists from the United States and Canada who made their homes in his native San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. His father, a violinist, helped him to develop his talents by introducing him to fellow artists and musicians, notably the Canadian artist, Leonard Brooks and his photographer wife, Reba. She chronicled the era of famous Mexican muralists. She also gave Alfredo piano lessons as a boy. Together, this talented group of family and friends encouraged Alfredo’s creative life.
His work has been exhibited and collected throughout Mexico. For many years, he painted in the morning at San Miguel’s Bellas Artes school. Later in the day, and into the evening, he attended to his patients. His talent arises from a life long commitment to the arts. Please contact the artist for details and prices.
