About the Wimberley, Texas Area...
Wimberley is located between Austin and San Antonio, Texas.

Summer storm sky over the Wimberley Valley

Wimberley is located between Austin and San Antonio (see map here), and the drives to Wimberley from almost any direction can be scenic and lovely. Ranch Road 12 from San Marcos or Dripping Springs, or the Devil's Backbone, CR 32, from Blanco are worth relaxing into a slow, country road mode, although the increase in Wimberley's population over the last two decades can create a traffic challenge. Once in the mood, you'll find it easier to brake for the occasional  roadrunner or  deer and enjoy the curving beauty that is not Interstate Highway 35, statistically one of the deadliest routes to travel. (Click here to see local maps.)

The Texas Hill Country is unique and special, and the Wimberley Valley is nestled right in the heart of it all. Located in the central flyway for migrating birds and sitting atop the Edwards Plateau, where a huge variety of natural fauna can be found, it's a perfect place for anyone who loves nature.

Our climate provides an average of 300 days of sunshine a year, with hot summers and mild winters. Annual average rainfall is 37 inches, and frost dates usually fall between November 20 and March 2, although Texas weather is notoriously variable.

The Blanco River and Cypress Creek are the local streams. In addition to the bald cypress and pecan trees that line the riverbanks, cedar, oak, and grasses grow in shallow, clay loams on the area slopes and benches. Population growth and subsequent development in the central Texas area has increased the incidence of flooding, but the natural beauty of the softly winding Blanco River, shaded Cypress Creek and the stunning views of Lone Man Creek call to artists, retired folks and anyone seeking escape from city life.

Smack in the middle of Lady Bird Johnson's wildflower country, the Wimberley area is blessed with a panorama of spring and summer wildflowers. You can see a few and send a card from here.

Wimberley has been a retreat for artists, musicians and writers for many years, and hosts the most popular Market Day in the area. From April through December, Wimberley Market Days bring visitors from all over the country every first Saturday of the month to the 450 plus booths of art and wares.

Summer attracts vacationers to this escape from the bustle of the city, with music festivals, river and water activities, art shows, shopping, and local dining.

Most visitors come to enjoy the peace and natural beauty of the area. The climate and setting make the community a health center and resort town. Visitors also like to stay in Wimberley as a central location near many other popular Hill Country destinations. Wimberley's neighbors include:
Blanco, 19 miles away
Buda, 17 miles away
Canyon Lake, 15 miles away
Driftwood, 17 miles away
Dripping Springs, 16 miles away
Gruene, 20 miles away

and stretching toward San Antonio, New Braunfels, 27 miles away.
